Update from Police Chief Zoner

Dear Members of the Cornell Community,

I write with an update to my Monday email regarding the unsubstantiated threats made against the University. We have had no reported incidents related to those threats and believe that the threat is over. As always, I encourage you to maintain your increased vigilance as we, the Cornell Police, continue to investigate with our local and federal partners. An increased police presence on the Ithaca campus will remain in effect until at least after Slope Day on Thursday to maximize the safety of that event, and the ability of our students to celebrate the end of the semester.

Please be prepared for additional security measures at Slope Day and other large events on our campuses — increased personnel, prohibition of large bags, container searches and greater overall scrutiny of behaviors. You can help us by staying alert to your surroundings and reporting any suspicious items or activity by calling 607-255-1111 or 911 if it is an emergency.

Many thanks,

Kathy Zoner
Chief, Cornell University Police Department

Cornell Alert: Message from Police Chief Zoner

Dear Members of the Cornell Community,

I write to advise the community of an ongoing investigation into unsubstantiated threats made against the University by an unknown individual via two different third party, non-Cornell websites. The threats are non-specific regarding location or motive, but there is a clear reference to causing harm. We are working with other local and federal law enforcement agencies, increasing our staffing and presence on all of our campuses, and sharing this information with you out of an abundance of caution so that all of us can increase our vigilance. Please continue about your normal course of activities.

To report any suspicious items or activity, contact the tip line at 607-255-5000. If you have questions or concerns, contact the call center at 607-255-0101. You will be routed to the appropriate personnel.

I will provide an update to the community by noon on Wednesday.

Kathy Zoner
Chief, Cornell University Police Department
