VP Lombardi issues statement on stabbing incident
As noted in a Crime Alert issued early this morning, shortly before 2 a.m. two individuals were stabbed during a large fight near the intersection of College Avenue and Campus Road. The Cornell University Police Department (CUPD) believes there is no longer any ongoing threat to campus.
One of the victims, a student at Ithaca College, was released from the hospital after receiving medical treatment. I am saddened to report that the other victim, also a student at Ithaca College, has died. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.
The identities of the individuals have not yet been released, as family members are still being notified.
The Ithaca Police Department (IPD) is leading an investigation into this tragic incident with the support of CUPD and other law enforcement agencies. More details will be provided by IPD as the investigation continues. Information that may be helpful to the police investigation should be provided to CUPD by calling 607-255-1111.
There is nothing more important than the safety of our community; as such, this incident is deeply disturbing. Please be sure to take care of yourselves and each other throughout the coming days. Support resources are available and details for how to access them can be found at the bottom of this message.
