Kappa Sigma operations suspended by national organization

The Office of Fraternities, Sororities and Independent Living has announced that as of November 13, operations of the Cornell chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity are suspended as a result of allegations of hazing.

According to the notice from the national organization, “the chapter is to cease all operations immediately including the following: chapter meetings, chapter social functions, intramurals, all pledge and initiation activities, all community service projects and all alumni events. The chapter will also be alcohol free indefinitely which means that there can be no alcohol at any Kappa Sigma event regardless of the location. The chapter house, and unofficial chapter house or any other location where brothers gather must be alcohol free.”

The national organization is conducting an investigation. The report of their findings is to be filed with the national organization within 14 days of the notice of suspension. The Office of Fraternities, Sororities and Independent Living, working with the self-governing Greek judicial board, has conducted fact-finding and awaits the conclusion of the national organization’s investigation to determine next steps.
