Vice President Lombardi issues condolences on death of Miaoxiu "Tina" Tian, '18
Dear Cornell Community,
As we close the semester, it is with profound sadness that I write to inform you that we have lost a member of our community.
Miaoxiu "Tina" Tian '18 was found dead in her apartment yesterday. The Ithaca Police Department is investigating, but foul play is not suspected.
A senior in materials science and engineering in the College of Engineering, Tina excelled in physics and the sciences. An active member of Professor Grace Xing’s lab, Tina frequently pursued additional research opportunities, with the end goal of preparing for graduate school work.
As we struggle with this loss, I encourage you to reach out to others for support and to use the support services listed below. For community members wishing to come together during this difficult time, there will be a support meeting on Friday, Dec. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. in 102 Thurston Hall.
On behalf of the university community, I want to extend our deepest condolences to Tina’s family and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts as we mourn this loss to our community.
Ryan Lombardi
Vice President for Student & Campus Life
