Welcome message

Dear Cornellians,

Welcome to the start of a new academic year! I hope you are as excited as I am for all that’s ahead. As we kick off the year, I want to take a moment to reiterate the message I shared at New Student Convocation earlier this month. For the many of you who weren’t in the audience, the theme of my message was “connections”.

As you settle into your routine, I hope you’re intentional about making connections with your fellow Cornellians as well as with the talented faculty and staff. At Cornell, we strive to build a community that is One Cornell. The success of our community is reliant on each one of us, and reliant on the meaningful connections we build with each other. There are few times in life when you can be surrounded by so many great minds from all over the world. I sincerely hope you all take advantage of this opportunity.

Throughout the year, I plan to update you on some of the priorities we’re working on in Student and Campus Life. This past academic year and summer, we focused on mental health as a priority for our campus and it will again continue to be an ongoing priority for this new academic year. I will send an update next month to showcase some of the new initiatives that are underway.

For students on the Ithaca campus, the annual CU Downtown welcome event for new and returning students will be held on Saturday, September 1 on the Ithaca Commons. This is a great event that brings Cornell together with the larger Ithaca community in celebration of your return. Don’t miss it!

Best,

Ryan Lombardi
Vice President for Student & Campus Life
