Statement from VP Lombardi on the death of Matthew Crovella '23

It is with deep sadness that I share the news that Matthew Crovella '23 died unexpectedly in his residence hall room last evening. His death was the result of a medical episode.

Matthew, a major in Health Care Policy in the College of Human Ecology, was active in several organizations both on and off campus. He was a Cornell Tradition Fellow, member of the paintball team and archery club, and also served as an EMT, recently affiliated with Bangs Ambulance in Ithaca and with the Cayuga Heights Fire Department.

A community support meeting open to all members of the Cornell community will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3 from 4-5 p.m. (details below). I encourage anyone who may be in need of immediate resources as we process this loss to reach out to the offices listed below.

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to Matthew’s family and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts as we all process this tremendous loss to our community.
