Unsubstantiated threat to campus

Dear Ithaca campus community,

Earlier today, Cornell and a number of other universities received an identical anonymous email threatening violence against these campus communities. Cornell University Police have investigated this threat and deemed it not to be credible. There is no active threat to campus at this time, and Cornell community members should continue with scheduled activities.

Threats such as this – which included hateful, incendiary language – are deeply stressful and hurtful to our entire community, and especially our Jewish, Israeli, Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim students, faculty, and staff.

Cornell does not tolerate such threats, and we will cooperate with local and federal law enforcement partners to ensure that the person or people behind them are punished to the full extent of the law.

Cornell Police are continuing to investigate the origins of this email threat. We will provide an update when more information is available.

Sincerely,

David Honan
Associate Vice President for Public Safety
