UAW labor contract ratified

Dear Cornell Community,

On Sunday and Monday, the United Auto Workers (UAW) voted to ratify a new labor contract with the University. As shared in the recent message to campus, the contract will substantially improve compensation and benefits for the University’s service and maintenance workers in Dining, Building Care, Grounds, and Transportation, and at the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the Statler Hotel.

The new contract goes into effect immediately, ending the strike. As we work over the coming days to reintegrate our UAW-represented employees into the workforce, we ask that everyone act with kindness and respect one another’s personal choices, whether that was to strike or to continue working.

We continue to ask anyone without a meal plan that includes swipes (not Meal Choice) to explore dining alternatives other than Cornell Dining eateries. We hope that these eateries will reopen for everyone later this week; please check the Cornell Dining website for updates. To help alleviate concerns about meal options for non-swipe meal plan holders, there will be food trucks on campus today and tomorrow at various locations.

Welcome back to those who have been on strike and once again, thank you to the countless staff and faculty who helped to fill operational gaps caused by the strike, and to the community as a whole for your continued patience. We are looking forward to a successful academic term, supported as usual by our full cadre of superb Cornell staff.

Sincerely,
