Support and resources for our Cornell community
To our Cornell community,
We are just a little over two months into the academic year, and yet so much has happened across our campuses that weighs on our community. We have experienced the tragic loss of students, staff, and faculty members whose memories and impact live on. We continue to face significant political challenges, nationally and globally, that directly affect our campus climate and challenge our efforts to remain true to our mission and values. Locally, our institution is navigating tremendous and evolving financial pressures that are felt in all corners of what makes Cornell such a special place.
In moments like this, when it may feel like our campus light is diminished, it is critical to take a moment to pause and reflect on the things that matter most — the community we create together and the opportunities for connection that surround us.
It starts with each of us — students, staff, and faculty members alike — taking that first step to ask for help when needed, offer support to someone who may be struggling, or be the one who says it’s okay to take a break and give space to refocus. What we value most at Cornell is our humanity and contribution to the overall well-being of this community. This is a place where we grow beyond the culture of individual achievement and see our work as communal and supportive.
Our work as leaders must extend beyond the creation of resources to support our community. It must include a true commitment to honoring the work of all students, all faculty, and all staff who make the connections and provide the social fabric that makes this community stronger. We must all remain steadfast in our commitment to the values and mission that have guided us as we have grown into the diverse, supportive, and courageous community that we are.
We can all make small changes – something as simple as taking a moment to look past immediate pressures in our lives and connect with our colleagues or peers to build positive momentum across campus. The relationships we make and the lives we affect in those moments will far outweigh the grades earned or meetings attended.
Below, you will find some campus resources to support many of your needs and offer opportunities to establish deep connections and an enriched community. Reaching out is a sign of strength that has a tangible influence and impact on those around you.
We appreciate what each of you brings to this university and know that what makes this such a special institution is this incredible community we all create.
Sincerely,
Ryan Lombardi
