Sympathy for the Brown University Community

I write with compassion and in shared grief for our friends and colleagues at Brown University after today’s tragic shooting in Providence. University leaders, including the Cornell University Police Department, are closely following the events in Rhode Island.

This unspeakable violence struck a university community during final exams as students, faculty, and staff prepare for the end of a semester and to spend time with loved ones. Our hearts go out to everyone at Brown.

To our Cornell students: It is human to experience stress at the end of a semester, and now you may be worried for friends at Brown. Please do not hesitate to seek out university resources. No one is alone.

In sympathy,

Michael I. Kotlikoff
President
