Update: Cornell Canvas access restored
Dear Cornell students, faculty, and staff,
We are sharing an update on the global security incident that led Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, to disable the Canvas online learning platform yesterday evening.
Full Canvas access for instructors and students at Cornell has been restored. University IT staff have tested Canvas functionality and confirmed that our community can access all course materials, assignments, and other Canvas resources.
We recognize the brief Canvas outage occurred during end-of-semester activities for faculty and students across our campuses. Instructors should communicate directly to students about any changes to assignment deadlines or course expectations. The Center for Teaching Innovation for the Ithaca campus and Cornell Tech and Educational Technologies for the Weill Cornell Medicine campus will continue to provide resources and support for instructors.
Cornell and the thousands of other educational institutions affected by the global Canvas security incident are continuing to work with Instructure to understand the incident's impacts. The university will follow up directly with individuals in our community whose personal data or information may have been exposed.
We appreciate your understanding during this challenging situation. For further updates, please visit the IT Status Alerts page and Instructure’s security incident information.
Sincerely,
Ben Maddox
